Campaign Cloak Care: Product Comparison & Recommendations
When it comes to protecting your campaign cloaks, we know how important it is to preserve their appearance while ensuring durability. Whether you're gaming on the go or storing your minis between sessions, a little care goes a long way. That's why we've conducted a simple side-by-side product comparison to see which coatings are safe to use, without changing the look or feel of your cloaks.
The Goal
We wanted to test commonly used sealants and adhesives to see if any would darken, stain, or otherwise affect the finish of our cloak fabric. The aim: to find safe options for sealing and protecting cloaks during crafting or gameplay.
The Products Tested
We applied a variety of popular coatings to our sample cloaks and compared them directly against untreated "Control" samples. Here’s what we tested:
PVA Glue
Mod Podge
Amy Painter Varnish
Tester Spray Lacquer
Plastikote Lacquer
Vallejo Varnish
Note: All samples were allowed to dry fully before comparison.
The Results
As shown in the images below, none of the tested products caused noticeable changes in the cloak fabric’s colour or texture. The finishes remained consistent, with no visible warping, bleeding, or dulling. This means each of these products is a viable option for protecting your cloaks when applied correctly.
What We Recommend
Best Practice: Apply a light spray of your chosen varnish, which helps ensure even coverage and avoids oversaturation.
Safe Choices: All of the products tested above proved safe to use in moderation.
Avoid: Do not use super glue or any adhesive with strong solvents, as they can stain or damage the fabric.
Important: Never immerse your cloaks in liquid. Even waterproof coatings can degrade or allow leakage over time.
Final Thoughts
Crafting and protecting your campaign gear should be as enjoyable as the game itself. With these findings, you can confidently treat your cloaks without sacrificing quality or appearance.
